Search Engine Optimization

This is such a broad topic I didn’t know where to start. What is search engine optimization? According to moz.com “a search engine optimization also known as SEO is a marketing discipline focused on growing visibility in organic (non-paid) search engine results.” SEO improves your rankings, drives traffic and increases the awareness in search engines. Why would this be important? Well it makes it easier to find your website or page on-line.
SEO is very complex and can help you out with everything online. Tagging has become huge in the last few years. Facebook explains tagging perfectly for their website. I didn’t know what the use of “tagging” someone was before doing a little research on SEO’s. When someone tags you, the tag creates a link to your profile. This makes it so whoever is tagged in the post or picture their friends and acquaintances see that you’re tagged and can view your profile. It lets the world know who you were with. You can tag pretty much anything. Tagging is like a label or a key word that will pull up a profile or a topic being talked about. It isn’t just tagging people, but that’s the most common type of tag for Facebook.
Geotagging is pretty much the same thing, but it tags a location. When you take a picture you used to have to post or label where you were. Now on iPhones and other smartphones it automatically labels it for you if your “location” is turned on. It takes out a few steps, and whenever you post this picture online it labels it for you. This is a great idea because it eliminates a lot of little details, and it reminds you of where you have been.
When looking up some more information about SEO’s it was more for companies. It was interesting to see how many companies dedicate their time to helping others gain a reputation. An article mentioned 7 reasons why SEO would be good for your company. I liked how it mentioned that it works, it will always be around. It isn’t going to go anywhere in the near future, and your competitors are doing it. This is more benefited to your companies marketing strategy, and it just makes sure your website/page is one of the first ones seen when someone types a question into google. I didn’t get into all the algorithms and how everything works, but it was interesting to see how much this could help your business when you have that simple example of tagging with Facebook. They make everyone’s life easier, and they make the web a lot more organized.
Let me know how you liked my blog about tagging, and hopefully I was able to update your knowledge about SEO’s, and tagging.

  1. SEO really is super complex. I don't even understand the majority of it. I guess that's why it is mostly for companies like you said.
